I would consider Miami to be very business casual. I don’t personally think we dress as professional as perhaps Washington or New York and I’m sure it all has to do with the weather. It is incredibly hot in Miami all year round so dressing business casual is acceptable pretty much anywhere.
It’s important to note that having a corporate job doesn’t mean your wardrobe needs to lack style and personality. One of the best things about business casual is you can dress it up or down as much as you’d like but still professional.
Here are my top tips for dressing business casual while still looking trendy:
- Wear a blazer – This is my go-to for any outfit. I have more blazers and jackets than anything else in my closet. You can dress up a dress with a cute blazer, you can dress up your slacks and top with a jacket. A blazer will add that extra touch to any outfit making it look a bit more professional, no matter what you’re wearing underneath, a blazer will always make a statement. Perhaps it’s casual Friday and you want to wear jeans and a top, well add a blazer to make it look more business.
- Accessorize according to your outfit – I’m a bit weird when it comes to accessorizing. I’m not huge into costume jewelry but I love accessorizing my outfit with personal jewelry. I love stacked rings, a watch and some silver studs. Sometimes I’ll add a bracelet or my Tiffany necklace if my outfit needs it. If there’s a lot going on with my blouse I’ll avoid the necklace but a boring top can be spruced up with some accessories.
- Heels – Because I walk to work and back, I wear mostly flats to the office. I also have a standing desk so my feet get tired. But I am all for heels, my favorite outfit combo is pieces of denim with point-toed heels.
